Trauma
By definition, trauma is “any event or experience that overwhelms one’s ability to cope (Van der Kolk, 2014).” Because trauma is highly subjective, it is way more common than most of us are conditioned to think. While this may sound scary, it can also be liberating as we begin to normalize trauma and its’ potentially lingering effects.
Most obvious symptoms of trauma include:
-
Flashbacks
-
Nightmares
-
Panic Attacks
Less obvious symptoms include:
-
Hypervigilance
-
Paranoid thinking
-
Excessive worrying
-
Emotional Sensitivity
-
Unexplained anxiety
